This weird, dark crime film surprised the hell out of me when the cast started to sing: it’s a musical?! The acting was excellent–especially Zoe Saldana–but I was definitely missing cultural context. I’m tired of queer stories that don’t end well, both in-film and IRL. Disappointed in the lead’s problematic tweets, and how it messed with the film’s Oscar run-up trajectory and my impression of her as a representative of the queer community.
