Real Women Have Curves on Broadway

Real Women Have Curves on Broadway

This is a beautiful immigrant story set in late 1980s Los Angeles, and I went in unfamiliar with either the play or the movie it was based on. Striking how relevant and important it is given what’s going on under our current administration–one particularly chilling scene of an ICE raid had the whole place in tears.

The music is fantastic; it reminded me of my all-time favorite musical, In the Heights. I can’t remember the last time I saw an audience give a standing ovation to a specific song mid-act, and that happened after the title song. There was also a hilarious number about menopause.

Overall, one of the best cry-laugh stories of perseverance and parenting and following your dreams I’ve seen in a long time. Bring your Mom and your sister.
